I went to a cool jam session last night - I played for three hours.. I started with Rhodes backing for a simple blues jam. Then I picked up a guitar. And later I played a bit of bass. It was a huge jam - there were singers, accordion players, saxophonists, the works - half of the time I couldn't hear what was going on really. But fun.

A lot of times everyone became stuck in just one chord.. I wanted to somehow make them pause so I could bring about a chord change with the rhythm guitar. I wanted basically to have a way to end movements and assign responsibility to a single band member for progressing the piece musically. But I am not sure how to do that.

but wouldn't that make it less of a jam session?

That would move it from a 'chaotic jam session' to an 'improvisation session' :P (Razz)

Just go chunka chunka chunka on a new chord and anyone jamming worth their salt will be influenced to join in :D (Big Grin)
